    Cartoonist B. Kliban (19351990) loved cats (no surprise there) and usually had several living with him. One day in the early 1970s, Kliban was hard at work doodling and thinking up ideas for cartoons when four striped kitties began demanding his attention. It could have been acatastrophe, but instead of getting angry with his furry friends, Kliban started drawing doodles of them. That moment turned out to be acatalyst for success. Klibans editor saw these cat cartoons, loved them, and convinced Kliban to show them to a book publisher. The frisky felines captured the publishers heart (and funny bone), and Cat was born to the world. The first book (simply calledCat) was published in 1975 andcatapulted Kliban to fame. Lots of colorful Cats followed, until Cat became the ultimate cat to collecta trusted friend, and a guaranteed source of smiles.     Puzzle size: 25 x 20 in. Box size: 10 x 13 x 1? in. Autumn Hillside, 1920, by Franklin Carmichael (Canadian, 18901945) Franklin Carmichael was born in 1890 in Orillia, Ontario. His father taught him the family trade of carriage making, but Franklin was determined to be an artist. He started taking art lessons at age twelve and, as a young man, went on to study art in Toronto and Antwerp, Belgium. He also experimented with sculpture and decoration using metals and other natural materials. Carmichael is well known as a fine artist in the Group of Seven, but he began his art career as a designer, graphic artist, and craftsman. He taught art classes at the Ontario College of Art (now OCAD University) and became the head of Graphic Design and Commercial Art in 1932. Carmichael also served on many boards and artist-run societies, and founded the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour with A.J. Casson in 1925.
