  • His Brother's Keeper: Christian Stewardship

    Charles Monroe Sheldon

Paperback (Kincaid Books, Nov. 18, 2015)
The alternate title for His Brother's Keeper is Christian Stewardship The book deals with the conflicts faced by two friends on opposite sides during a protracted strike in the iron mines as winter comes on and the mining families begin to truly suffer. How do the two of them manage to remain friends as the owners and the miners refuse to come to common ground? Eric must face the fact that the miners have been radicalized and no longer listen to his reasoned leadership of the strike. Stuart suddenly has control of the largest mining company, so he has enormous resources, but how can he best use it to help the miners, and how can he convince the other owners to recognize that the miners are deserving of recognition as humans and not mere tools for producing ore. The scenes in the mining region are based upon events which occurred during the great strike among the iron miners in the summer of 1895, and which were witnessed by the author. The Salvation Army songs are exact copies of songs actually sung by the army.
  • In His Steps

    Charles M. Sheldon

Paperback (Kincaid Books, Sept. 27, 2013)
In His Steps was the most successful novel of the Social Gospel genre and is the book that first posed the question "What would Jesus do?" The book sold in the millions and caused controversy in Christian religious circles. The popularity combined with the controversy made "What would Jesus do?" a permanent part of the American experience towards the end of the nineteenth century. In His Steps follows the members of the First Church as they take the pledge to always ask "What would Jesus do?" before taking action in their daily lives, without regard to what it might do to their personal situation in society. The results are as controversial and thought provoking today as they were when Charles M. Sheldon first read the book to his Sunday evening services of the Central Congregational Church of Topeka Kansas over one hundred years ago. The Kincaid Books edition has been newly typeset and carefully compared to an original copy printed in 1899 by Henry Altemus. The result is a text that is clear and free from both the multiple OCR errors often found in newly typeset editions and the visual distortions often seen in facsimile editions.
