In His Steps

Paperback (Kincaid Books Sept. 27, 2013)

In His Steps was the most successful novel of the Social Gospel genre and is the book that first posed the question "What would Jesus do?" The book sold in the millions and caused controversy in Christian religious circles. The popularity combined with the controversy made "What would Jesus do?" a permanent part of the American experience towards the end of the nineteenth century.

In His Steps follows the members of the First Church as they take the pledge to always ask "What would Jesus do?" before taking action in their daily lives, without regard to what it might do to their personal situation in society. The results are as controversial and thought provoking today as they were when Charles M. Sheldon first read the book to his Sunday evening services of the Central Congregational Church of Topeka Kansas over one hundred years ago.

The Kincaid Books edition has been newly typeset and carefully compared to an original copy printed in 1899 by Henry Altemus. The result is a text that is clear and free from both the multiple OCR errors often found in newly typeset editions and the visual distortions often seen in facsimile editions.
