  • Mom, I Want a Dog. Kindergarten Readers Early Reading Book.: Written by a 5 year old for other kids.

    Elsie Randall

    language (, Jan. 22, 2015)
A cute story written and illustrated by a 5 year old for other kids to read that uses common core vocabulary words from her Kindergarten homework in the context of a charming adventure.More info about the making of this book; Elsie saw her Mom write and illustrate a kid’s book (Dot and Bot See the Cat by May Randall) while she was home sick from school for a week and absolutely demanded to be allowed to use the illustrating program on her Mom ‘s computer to write her own book.Elsie’s Mom was less than excited to hand over her computer and drawing tablet to a 5 year old, so Elsie started drawing her book on paper with markers. She eventually convinced her Dad to help her write down the words to the book, which he wrote on “Post-it notes” so she could move the words around as she did revisions of earlier drawings. One night while her Mom was making dinner, Elsie snuck into her Mom’s office/the guest room and drew a fantastic drawing of herself and a dog on her Mom’s computer. Her Mother discovered it a couple of hours later and emailed it off to Grandma, who said “You need to let her write a book – this is amazing!” Here’s a video of Elsie drawing part of her book on her Mom’s computer / drawing tablet. The audio is not great because it’s a spontaneous video, not some studio-created production, but Elsie is sincere and sweet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=749NwKk5dcQOne week later, after lots of drawings were scanned into a computer art program and images Elsie drew directly on the computer were organized, the book was done. Please enjoy and let it be an inspiration to your little one!
