  • Tale of a Patriot

    Grandpa Casey

language (Grandpa Casey, Sept. 3, 2012)
Am I BRITISH, OR AM I AN AMERICAN. During the American Revolution, every Colonist had to decide. No one was spared; everyone was affected by the war. Follow Joe as he joins the Continental Navy and helped in the creation of a new country. He took part in some of the most memorable naval battles of the war. Joe was with the Marines when they captured Nassau and with John Paul Jones, when he shouted “I HAVE NOT YET BEGUN TO FIGHT.” Joining Washington, in Yorktown, when the British surrendered. Lafayette made him his aide during the peace talks in France. Since the written accounts of some naval encounters are vague, this is my interpretation of the events. THINGS COULD HAVE HAPPENED THIS WAY.This story is written to honor all the unknown naval heroes of the American Revolution. Now you can have all four parts under one cover.A percentage of the profits will go to ZFRF a non-profit organization to help people with cancer. • Dee-Dee and Effie Learn to Sail: boat handling and seamanship lessons from an old salt

    Grandpa Mike

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, April 29, 2016)
Active 9-year-old Dee-Dee and her daredevil little sister live on the edge of the Broads, a 117 square mile English national park with over 120 miles of shallow, navigable waterways, so it would be a crime not to teach them to sail as soon as possible. The Optimist, a small, simple boat designed to be sailed single-handed by children, is the boat they learn to handle. Grandpa Mike's maverick approach ensures that they have plenty of fun at the same time as getting a thorough grounding in seamanship and water safety as part of their training. Written for bright and lively 9-12 year olds, this book will teach and entertain plenty of adults, too.

  • I Think Something Is Tickling My Toes and Why Can't We Dance Too?: A Two Chapter Continuation Of The "GEE! A Story From The Forest" Series

    Grandpa Hill

    Paperback (XLIBRIS, July 29, 2014)
IMAGINATION IS A WONDERFUL THING. IT WILL ENABLE A CHILD TO TURN A GROUND BALL INTO A HOME RUN OR DREAMS INTO REALITY The progression from PICTURE book to CHAPTER book is normal and effective in enhancing the use of IMAGINATION. Imagination eliminates the initial necessary crutch that pictures provided. Once the picture is planted in the mind, our children will be able to devote their concentration on the written word without the distraction of the picture. Illustrations, of course, are very effective in initially approaching a new subject, but the reading skills will hopefully develop more rapidly while concentrating on the written word. In developing the new readers' vocabulary, we should remember that a DICTIONARY or THESAURUS provides definitions and synonyms of WORDS not PICTURES, and will be often used tools in the future of our kids. Therein lies the primary goal in the evolution from picture book into chapter book format, while embracing the necessity of introducing the love of nature and science into our "GEE! A STORY FROM A FOREST" series of books. My kids taught me that. Grandpa Hill
