Audiobook (Audible Studios, April 17, 2016)
Earphones Award Winner (AudioFile Magazine) "I think the reason we're so struck by [Jane Eyre] is how Charlotte Brontë manages to relate, expertly, what it means to be a human being...and that never changes." (Narrator Thandie Newton) Following Jane from her childhood as an orphan in Northern England through her experience as a governess at Thornfield Hall, Charlotte Brontë's Gothic classic is an early exploration of women's independence in the mid-19th century and the pervasive societal challenges women had to endure. At Thornfield, Jane meets the complex and mysterious Mr. Rochester, with whom she shares a complicated relationship that ultimately forces her to reconcile the conflicting passions of romantic love and religious piety. Performing the early Victorian novel with great care and respect, actress Thandie Newton (Crash, The Pursuit of Happyness) draws out Jane Eyre's intimacy and depth while conveying how truly progressive Brontë was in an era of extreme restraint.

  • Jane Eyre: By Charlotte Brontë : Illustrated

    Charlotte Brontë, Peter

eBook (Dover Publications, March 15, 2016)
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë How is this book unique?Tablet and e-reader formattedOriginal & Unabridged EditionAuthor Biography includedIllustrated versionJane Eyre /ˈɛər/ (originally published as Jane Eyre: An Autobiography) is a novel by English writer Charlotte Brontë. It was published on 16 October 1847, by Smith, Elder & Co. of London, England, under the pen name "Currer Bell." The first American edition was published the following year by Harper & Brothers of New York. Primarily of the bildungsroman genre, Jane Eyre follows the emotions and experiences of its title character, including her growth to adulthood and her love for Mr. Rochester, the Byronic master of fictitious Thornfield Hall. In its internalisation of the action—the focus is on the gradual unfolding of Jane's moral and spiritual sensibility, and all the events are coloured by a heightened intensity that was previously the domain of poetry—Jane Eyre revolutionised the art of fiction. Charlotte Brontë has been called the 'first historian of the private consciousness' and the literary ancestor of writers like Joyce and Proust. The novel contains elements of social criticism, with a strong sense of morality at its core, but is nonetheless a novel many consider ahead of its time given the individualistic character of Jane and the novel's exploration of classism, sexuality, religion, and proto-feminism.

  • Jane Eyre

    Charlotte Brontë

eBook (Dover Publications, March 5, 2012)
Determined to make her heroine "as poor and plain as myself," Charlotte Brontë made a daring choice for her 1847 novel. Jane Eyre possesses neither the great beauty nor entrancing charm that her fictional predecessors used to make their way in the world. Instead, Jane relies upon her powers of diligence and perception, conducting herself with dignity animated by passion. The instant and lasting success of Jane Eyre proved Brontë's instincts correct. Readers of her era and ever after have taken the impoverished orphan girl into their hearts, following her from the custody of cruel relatives to a dangerously oppressive boarding school and onward through a troubled career as a governess. Jane's first assignment at Thorn field, where the proud and cynical master of the house harbors a scandalous secret, draws readers ever deeper into a compelling exploration of the mysteries of the human heart.A banquet of food for thought, this many-faceted tale invites a splendid variety of interpretations. The heroine's insistence upon emotional equality with her lover suggests a feminist viewpoint, while her solitary status invokes a consideration of the problems of growing up as a social outsider. Some regard Jane's attempts to reconcile her need for love with her search for moral rectitude as the story's primary message, and lovers of gothic romance find the tale's social and religious aspects secondary to its gripping elements of mystery and horror. This classic of English literature truly features something for every reader.

  • Jane Eyre – Annotated and Abridged – The Best Dialogue and Narrative Parts

Charlotte Bronte, Paul and Brenda Neal

Paperback (Independently published, April 25, 2017)
Jane Eyre – Annotated and Abridged – The Best Dialogue and Narrative Parts is a highly edited version of the story. Jane Eyre is one of the most popular novels of all time. The delight of this story is the tension and sparring between the governess Jane Eyre and her master Mr. Rochester, a guarded then passionate meeting of minds and hearts. The dialogue between these two main characters is the thrust of the book. Some pithy narrative is included in addition to dialogue. Editing is very subjective. The language of Jane Eyre, nineteenth century British English, has an elegance and an intriguing timeless resonance. Of course some parts of the story are more compelling than other parts. We have chosen to focus mainly on the sparky synergy between these two feisty characters. Some subplots are covered in a sentence or two. Jane Eyre in its entirety is a masterpiece. However, for the reader who wants to admire the jewels, it can be argued that this edited version has a place. How could anyone dare to edit what is considered to be one of the best books ever written? We of the 21st Century have a shorter attention span. We are used to reading a lot online that is reduced to bullet points. Far better to read some Jane Eyre than none of it.
