This picture book STAR GAZER was originally illustrated and written by Carol Armbrust in 1986 for her deaf daughter Melinda. Carol drew crude color pencil drawings and wrote the poem to explain to Melinda about the stars that Carol, as a child growing up on a dark country road, remembered seeing. When Melinda grew up and finished college with a bachelor's degree in graphic design, her father, Rodger, commissioned Melinda to do the illustrations for the first edition of STAR GAZER so that the book could be printed and given as Christmas gifts to family and friends.
