  • Sometimes a Wall...

    Dianne White, Barroux

    Hardcover (Owlkids, Oct. 15, 2020)
An afternoon in the playground introduces different kinds of walls: a brick wall to draw on with chalk, a water wall, and a climbing wall. What follows is a playful yet profound exploration of the many ways walls can divide us or bring us together. When one child is excluded from a game, another builds a castle to leave him out. When the builder declares the castle MINE, other kids feel alienated―but the builder becomes lonely, too, when the others have fun without him. The book ends with the optimism of a new start: friendship, forgiveness, and imagination give the wall new meaning. Told with short, simple lines of playful, rhyming text and loose line illustrations by internationally known artist Barroux, this book sparks questions with empathy, insight, and charm. It’s a timely tool for inquiry-based and social-emotional learning, sharing the important message that walls can unite or divide, depending on the choices we make.
  • Sometimes I Pray

    Sheela Grant

Paperback (Christian Faith Publishing, Inc., May 9, 2018)
The world is a tough place to navigate. The younger we attain and develop the necessary tools to navigate successfully, the better. "You always have a prayer, but sometimes you only have a prayer." That essentially means that sometimes in life, our only hope is prayer. God hears and answers prayer. Sometimes He doesn't answer the way we think He should, but we have to remember that He is smarter and wiser than we are. I believe it is essential that children learn as early as possible that there is a Grand Creator, our Heavenly Father, who loves and cares about them. He listens to their little prayers even before they've mastered any language. Sometimes I Pray helps children to understand the things they can pray about. I remember being a little kid at the grocery store with my mother. We were poor, and at the checkout counter, I remember hoping she would have enough money to cover everything. I felt bad for her when she didn't. I wish I knew that we can pray about such things then. So, hopefully, this little book will help children in a big way to understand that they can pray for the "big" things and the basic things in life.

  • Sometimes Moon

    Carole Lexa Schaefer

Library Binding (Knopf Books for Young Readers, June 15, 1999)
From the creators of the highly-acclaimed The Squiggle, here is an imaginative introduction to the phases of the moon for young children. As the little girl in The Squiggle fancies a string to be many things, here, Selene uses her imagination to understand the moon's waxing and waning. She tells her Grandpa how she relates the different lunar phases to familiar concepts--the new moon is a Hiding Moon, the crescent moon is a Boat Moon like grandpa's dory, the half moon is a Basket Moon like mama's knitting basket. When the moon is two-thirds full, it is a Cheeky Moon, like Baby Nico's round, chubby cheeks, and the full moon is a Treasure Moon, like pieces of pirates' silver. Enhanced by Pierr Morgan's beguiling, fluid illustrations, Sometimes Moon is a terrific teaching tool on a subject of universal appeal. Includes an informational spread, clearly depicting the lunar progression.

  • Sometimes Pets

Alison Aldridge, Alison Aldridge-Houle, Doug Agee

    Paperback (Alison Aldridge-Houle, Dec. 9, 2010)

Well I have my very own critter-catcher at home, too. I can't tell you how many frogs, lizards and bugs have been scooped up, only to live a short life inside glass walls and tiny holes in the lid. So I wrote a book to help explain to my little critter-catcher why we can't keep wild critters, however small, in captivity. As we journey fromt he front yard to the shores of our local Harbor in "Sometimes Pets," I explain that watching these animals in their natural habitat is far more rewarding than keeping them in a jar. Join Emma, her dog, and I on our journey through the pages of "Sometimes Pets." and enjoy recognizing, or discovering, our beautiful Rockwall, Texas Harbor...who knows how many critters may be saved.
