Hue Manatee is wounded, lonely, and feeling blue. In his quest for companionship, he has some startling encounters with several other river and bay creatures, including an otter, an egret, and a hermit crab. They are all too preoccupied to care about Hue. At last, a small wooden boat brings a friend in the form of Jade, a young girl who seems to read his mind. She notices that Hue has been wounded by a motor boat propeller, and she assures him that she will bring him the help that he needs. A glossary provides information about the creatures in the book, and the story illustrates the impact of a simple act of caring.

BUDDY MANATEE is written and illustrated by Panama City, Florida author Tim Thomas, and is an environmentally correct children’s book, of a young manatee (Buddy) who becomes injured in one of Florida’s springs.
