    Michelle Obama

    Hardcover (kore, Nov. 16, 2018)
An intimate, powerful, and inspiring memoir by the former First Lady of the United States In a life filled with meaning and accomplishment, Michelle Obama has emerged as one of the most iconic and compelling women of our era. As First Lady of the United States of America-the first African American to serve in that role-she helped create the most welcoming and inclusive White House in history, while also establishing herself as a powerful advocate for women and girls in the U.S. and around the world, dramatically changing the ways that families pursue healthier and more active lives, and standing with her husband as he led America through some of its most harrowing moments. Along the way, she showed us a few dance moves, crushed Carpool Karaoke, and raised two down-to-earth daughters under an unforgiving media glare. In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites readers into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her-from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work, to her time spent at the world's most famous address. With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it-in her own words and on her own terms. Warm, wise, and revelatory, Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations-and whose story inspires us to do the same.
  • Becoming Eli

    Dan Ungureanu

    eBook (, Oct. 7, 2018)
Becoming Eli is the first graphic novel written and illustrated by Dan Ungureanu. The story is centered around Eli, a young female who lived for 23 years in orphanages and state institutions for young people with disabilities. The book presents Eli’s evolution from abandoned child to independent adult and disabilities’ rights advocate. Every chapter is based on the interview with Elisabeta Moldovan taken by the author following key moments of her life in a chronological order (first memories from primary school, moving from one institution to another, leaving the institution etc.). Eli is currently co-president of Ceva de Spus Association advocating for closing state institutions and community integration for people with disabilities. This graphic novel aims at raising awareness to the large public about isolation and disability and the difficulties people face in institutions. We therefore hope to draw more support for deinstitutionalisation. TELL ME THE TRUTH. TELL ME YOU DON’T KNOW MUCH ABOUT THE PERSONS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES. TELL ME YOU DON’T KNOW MUCH ABOUT RESIDENTIAL INSTITUTIONS SUCH AS ORPHANAGES AND ASYLUMS. OR TELL ME THAT YOU HAVE NEVER EVER REALLY THOUGHT ABOUT THE LIFE OF THE PEOPLE KEPT IN INSTITUTIONS. TELL ME THAT YOU ARE NOT VERY SURE WHAT TO THINK ABOUT THEM. TELL ME THAT MAYBE YOU DON’T KNOW HOW TO SPEAK TO THEM. THROW HEAVY WORDS AT ME – CALL ME HANDICAPPED, CALL ME RETARD – I’VE HEARD THESE WORDS SO MANY TIMES…BUT EVEN BETTER, CALL ME BY MY NAME. THIS IS ME. I AM BECOMING ELI.
