The Elephant becomes sad when Charlotte teases him about his gumboots. Charlotte must realise how she has hurt the Elephant's feelings and accept that everyone is different and beautiful in their own way. It is only when this happens does she help to find the missing piece of the puzzle, they have been looking for.
