  • SOME KIND of TWISTED LOVE

    Rachel Sullivan

    eBook (, Aug. 20, 2020)
Welcome to the San Juan’s, where hundreds of years ago sirens ruled the seas by luring men to Dead Man Island where they’d come for the beautiful women…and die for them too.Today though, sirens are only a shadow of their former glorious selves, weak from hundreds of years of following the no-luring-men mandate handed down by their previous matriarchs. Now they live among humans and no longer crave the monstrous lifestyle of their foremothers. As a result, their numbers are dwindling toward extinction. But with a new matriarch stepping into her role as leader of all siren-kind, the laws are changing. And seventeen-year-old Allura’s fantasies of luring men to their graves are no longer an embarrassing secret, but just the kind of power play her aunts need to impress the new matriarch and elevate their clan. They tell Allura she’s lucky to be the first of her kind in generations to embrace the old ways. But she doesn’t feel so lucky when the boy she’s crushing on is the initial victim assigned to her. If she follows orders, she’ll save her kind from extinction…and lose her humanity in the process. Her whole life, Allura has crammed herself into the mold of good siren girl. Now, she must decide what kind of monster she wants to be. A young adult contemporary fantasy novel, Some Kind of Twisted Love is the first in the Siren Sisters series and takes place in the Wild Women world.

The letters help ease her routine in the grueling Iraqi desert at her 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, just south of Fallujah, Iraq.Leah never knew she had such history in her family. The story brings her back to another time. A time when the country was undiscovered and her ancestors had to protect Fort Henry and their colony in the Ohio Valley in the 1700's.Betty Zane was the girl described in the story, who had to grow up fast on the frontier. She was raised by her brothers. Her older brother, Colonel Ebenezer Zane, taught her how to protect herself, use her instincts, and shoot a long rifle. Then, Betty fell in love with an exciting young man. Their love was immediate and deep. She never stopped loving him, even when she was forced to go to school in Philadelphia. All she wanted to do was to come home and marry Zach Van Swearingham. He was becoming a man. Passionate and bold like her. He was helping her brothers transform Fort Henry into Zanesville. She had to find a way back him.But the ruthless Shawnee Warrior with the scar on his brow was out to take everything from the Zanes. He found his opportunity with the British Captain Pratt and the American traitor George Girty. They were just as determined. They conspired to take down the Zanes and Fort Henry. But they threatened the wrong girl. A girl who was becoming a woman, who loved her man and her country, and would do anything to save them. The true story of her ancestors stir something within Sergeant Leah Ann Sullivan at just the right time. Her Captain orders her to lead a mission. A “Red Eye Op.” Now it is her turn to protect her country. She is about to find out just how damn tough she is. Leah is about to embark on her own journey of self-discovery and intestinal fortitude, and high risk in the dark of the Iraqi desert.Enter the dark with Leah, into the pitch black night with a team of Marines. An "edge of your seat thriller" Two heroes linked by generations. Two daring missions. A true story, about a female warrior in the past that will forever change who this Marine warrior is in the present.Review: 5 stars! Inspiring book about two strong women seperated by generations. Connected by blood, courage and spirit! Great Read! I love historical fiction and while I’ve read many military history books I’ve never read a military historical fiction based title. The book intertwines a connection between two strong women who bravely fought for the stars and stripes in very different times. The war of independence and Gulf war one. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed the colonial side of the book more than Leah’s Iraq deployment. Her arc was engaging and enjoyable so don’t get me wrong. Betty’s story arc tied the whole thing together of course. An amazing woman to say the least. Pratt was a great antagonist that really brought the tension of the time to life. Linn was another key ingredient (I’m a huge Jeb Stewart fan so I love reading about scouts). Lastly I was very impressed with the writers ability to bring the terrain and natural state to life. You must have spent many hours in the woods to write in such a descriptive fashion!
