  • The Constitutional Convention: A History Just for Kids

    KidCaps

eBook (BookCaps Study Guides, Aug. 19, 2012)
James Madison wiped his forehead for what seemed like the one hundredth time today. He had to do so to keep the sweat from dripping into his eyes. He looked over at Benjamin Franklin. Franklin was sweating also, his face shining as he fanned himself with a stack of papers. Seated on the stage, General George Washington was politely listening to Alexander Hamilton, representative from New York, as he explained why a larger government doesn’t have to mean a more dangerous government. Even General Washington, always so dignified and calm, looked uncomfortable in the heat. And so begins the fascinating history of the constitutional convention. It's hard to imagine America ever faced times so hard, but in this book, just for kids, you'll find out what happened and what it was like to be a kid during these times.KidCaps is an imprint of BookCaps Study Guides; with dozens of books published every month, there's sure to be something just for you! • Velociraptor: A History Just for Kids

    KidCaps

language (BookCaps Study Guides, June 20, 2012)
There were plenty of giant animals around during the Age of Dinosaurs. This epoch ended 65 million years ago when a huge meteor hit the Earth and ushered in our current Age of Mammals. The Age of Dinosaurs saw herds of Triceratops move through what would become the western United States, eating ferns, cycads, and other exotic Cretaceous plants. Tyrannosaurus rex, one of the most powerful, huge meat-eaters ever to live on Earth lived in the same place at the same time. The smaller dinosaurs could be just as strange and interesting, though. One of these is velociraptor, a small dinosaur that lived in Mongolia, at the eastern end of the Old World just across the Bering Strait from what's now Alaska. Velociraptor is famous because of the “Jurassic Park” books and movies, but the real velociraptor, even though it was a meat-eater, wasn't as big or dangerous as the ones that appear in the movies. In this book, you'll learn all about what made this massive giant great--from what they looked like and ate to where they lived and what they did all day.KidCaps is an imprint of BookCaps; each month we are adding more history books (just for kids!) to our library. • A Kids Guide to the American Revolution

    KidCaps

language (BookCaps Study Guides, Sept. 24, 2012)
The war was raging all around him. Johnny was only twelve years old, so he wasn’t allowed to pick up a gun or to be a soldier. However, he still had a very important job on the battlefield: he was the messenger for American Major General Gates. While he waited for the scouts to come back with their reports of British troop movements, Johnny could hear the musket balls whizzing above him, breaking branches in the trees. His father was out there in the battle lines, and through the smoke on the field, Johnny could just barely see him finish loading his musket, step to the right, take aim, and fire the weapon. The gun rocked as it fired and let out a cloud of smoke as the black powder exploded in the barrel, pushing the musket out at high speed. Johnny’s father stepped back behind a tree to reload his musket- something that took even the best trained soldier about twenty seconds to do- before coming out to fire again. And so begins the fascinating history of the American Revolution. It's hard to imagine America ever faced times so hard, but in this book, just for kids, you'll find out what happened and what it was like to be a kid during these times.KidCaps is an imprint of BookCaps Study Guides; with dozens of books published every month, there's sure to be something just for you! • Internment Camps for Japanese-Americans During World War Two: A History Just for Kids!

    KidCaps

language (BookCaps Study Guides, April 23, 2013)
During World War Two, the United States fought mainly against Germany, Italy, and Japan. As you can imagine, any Germans, Italians, or Japanese citizens visiting or temporarily working in the United States when the war broke out, quickly found themselves feeling unwelcome. After all, they belonged to a government that was actively fighting against the country that they were in. For many of those who were temporarily in the US when war broke out, they had to decide very quickly whether to leave the country and go home or to stay and make their support for the US government clear. Some Italian-Americans and German-Americans were forced into prisons and holding areas during the war, and although it was sad what happened to them, their numbers were quite small. For that reason, in this handbook we will be focusing mainly on the huge number of Japanese-Americans who were put into special camps during the war. We will also see that unlike those who were temporarily visiting the US from enemy countries when the war broke out, the majority of those who were sent to the camps were American citizens, born and raised in the US. What do you think about that?Find out about this exciting and complex period of time in this kid's book.
