During a family holiday to Kenya, Matt Campbell finds the organised safaris less than inspiring. The whole experience is just too safe and orderly. So when he is offered the chance of a genuine adventure, he accepts without hesitation. However, Matt’s unauthorized trek into the bush ends in disaster when he inadvertently stumbles into the territory of a sacred white Wildebeest. The enraged creature attacks, and its unfortunate victim is sent into a coma. When Matt wakes, he is astonished to discover that five days have passed. He is further disquieted by the news that he has been transported back to London. Although physically all seems well, he soon becomes aware of disturbing changes to both body and mind. As the Campbell family resume their familiar routine, Matt feels increasingly isolated in the domestic environment. His acute senses and his improved athletic ability make him feel like some kind of freak. Although Matt is confused by these changes, their cause soon becomes horribly apparent. As fate would have it, Matt’s thirteenth birthday coincides with the full moon. There IS a dramatic transformation at the Campbell house, and a wild spirit is released into the streets of London. In his altered form, Matt embarks on an amazing series of adventures, which nearly lead him to his doom.WILDEBEEST BLUES is the story of a boy who not only turns thirteen, but turns into something even more terrifying. Between its tense beginning by an African waterhole, and its moon drenched climax on Hampstead Heath, it takes the reader on a journey through the treacherous landscape of adolescence. Populated by memorable characters, it offers a highly original, yet compassionate view of coming of age.
