    jane-goodall

Hardcover (Grand Central Publishing, March 15, 2013)
Renowned naturalist and bestselling author Jane Goodall examines the critical role that trees and plants play in our world. In her wise and elegant new book, Jane Goodall blends her experience in nature with her enthusiasm for botany to give readers a deeper understanding of the world around us.Long before her work with chimpanzees, Goodall's passion for the natural world sprouted in the backyard of her childhood home in England, where she climbed her beech tree and made elderberry wine with her grandmother. The garden her family began then, she continues to enjoy today. SEEDS OF HOPE takes us from England to Goodall's home-away-from-home in Africa, deep inside the Gombe forest, where she and the chimpanzees are enchanted by the fig and plum trees they encounter. She introduces us to botanists around the world, as well as places where hope for plants can be found, such as The Millennium Seed Bank, where one billion seeds are preserved. She shows us the secret world of plants with all their mysteries and potential for healing our bodies as well as Planet Earth.Looking at the world as an adventurer, scientist, and devotee of sustainable foods and gardening-and setting forth simple goals we can all take to protect the plants around us-Jane Goodall delivers an enlightening story of the wonders we can find in our own backyards.
  • Nimitz Class Aircraft Carriers - On Deck No. 6

    Jim Goodall

    Paperback (Squadron/Signal Publications, March 15, 2010)
The largest naval vessels in the world are the Nimitz-class super aircraft carriers. The Nimitz (CVN-68) launched the class when it was commissioned on 3 May 1975 and it has been followed by another 9 vessels. USS Dwight D. Eisenhower was the first US warship to respond to the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in August 1990. USS Carl Vinson was the first to launch air attacks as part of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. In the mid-1990s USS Theodore Roosevelt supported NATO air strikes against Bosnian Serbs during fighting in former Yugoslavia. • From North Berwick with love: Then and now through picture postcards, photos, maps and prints

    Ian Goodall

(Bass Rock Books, Aug. 18, 2015)
“From North Berwick with love” tells the then and now story of North Berwick - East Lothian’s popular seaside town - through postcards sent by its visitors and holidaymakers over more than 100 years. Picture postcards have captured, as individual time capsules, every essence of a place, its beaches, streets, people and activities. On one side there’s a picture, or more than one, capturing the scene as it was; on the other there’s personal space for a message to convey excitement, participation, anticipation or just to confirm you’re boring/bored or feel the need to bore someone else (usually a relative). Postcards were the social media of the day but with one big difference - the original card and its message is still around years later to appear forever in “From North Berwick with love”. The book also contains lots of lovely recent photographs in and around North Berwick so you can enjoy the now with the then. We hope to see you soon in the “Biarritz of the North” with its limited mobile phone data services and where lots of shops still sell postcards!
