Sizzling Parrot in black bean sauce is just one item on the special parrot menu in Chop Suey Charlie's Chinese restaurant, by the not very sweet smelling waiter-cat, Hing Hong Big Pong. Necklaces made from parrot feathers and claws are available at Precious Gemma's jewellery shop, and Just Call Me Bob is selling parrot candles in his Candle Emporium. At the Punch and Judycat show on Cat-Haven beach a black and white photographer-cat, Dark Room Dave, runs amok and savages the pet parrot of Shuffle Shoe Charlotte, a gifted actress-cat who recently starred as Imeldacat Marcos in the West End hit musical, Don't cry for me Filipino!Meanwhile, there is chaos in Cat-Haven County Court, where Klepto Klaws is on trial for his part in the Mackerel Robberies case, in front of Judge Joshua the Joker and his four-piece band. There are squintillions of suspects. Can Stanley and his team track down the parrot thief? Of course they can!Alexander Martin: "The Stanley Smartpants stories have been enjoyed by children (equally by boys and girls) and by adults. Simply put, they are a vehicle for humour. For comments by children and adults go to the Home Page of my website www.stanleysmartpants.co.uk"
  • Stanley Smartpants and the Disappearing Diamonds

    Alexander Martin

(Ambassador Publishing Co., March 20, 2020)
The fifth mysterious case for Stanley Smartpants and his team of cat detectives. An expensive diamond necklace belonging to Lady Lucinda Lumpface, who considers herself superior to all other cats, is stolen from the Royal Feline Hotel and Carvery in Babbacat. Other robberies occur at Dazzling Diamonds 4 Filthy Rich Cats and Jewels4Kats. In all three cases diamonds have disappeared from locked safes, manufactured by Loktite Securities in Cat-Haven-on-Sea. When Stanley and his boss, Chief Inspector Dimwit, visit Leo Lox, owner of Loktite Securities, they make a shocking discovery. Leo's deliver engineer, former boxer Granite Chops Gringo, was off sick when the three safes in question were delivered, apparently by a mystery cat, known as Billy Splash.Suspects include Julian Jewelpincher, recently released from prison, and captured on CCCTV (Closed Circuit Cat Television) at the Grandcat Hotel, where another expensive diamond necklace has been stolen from yet another Loktite safe! Could it have anything to do with a Grandcat guest, Graham Grumble Grunge, owner of a jewellery store in London's Catton Garden?Your Secret is Safe with me Scarlett, chief crime reporter-cat on the Cat-Haven Chronicle, and editor Poisonous Paddy the Pen, put Stanley under pressure. Should he call in the CIA (Cat Intelligence Agency) or even the FBI (Feline Bureau of Investigation)?Quote from Amy Fox, Waterstones Children's specialist: "As always, Alexander Martin writes with terrific flair and humour, lovingly creating a cast of unforgettable felines."Alexander Martin: "Although I wrote these stories for children they seem to appeal to adults just as much. They are awash with humour, and ultimately humour is universal, it is neither gender specific or age specific. Before they can talk to the Harbour Master-cat, Bosun Brian, who reported the robbery, he is found dead. Was it an accident or was it murder? Did the same cat commit both crimes? Was it Mackerel Mike, one of the fishercats who pulled the dead cat from the sea and then disappeared? Or Bouncing Bert, the Assistant Harbour Master-cat, who clearly wants the top job? Or could it have been Willy Splish of Splash Splosh Painters and Decorators, who recently decorated sir Lancelot's yacht? Or perhaps it was Ship-Shape Shane, the Commodore-cat of the Brixcat Yacht Club, who looks after Sir Lancelot's yacht? Or even Sir Lancelot himself? It's an intriguing mystery.Quote from Amy Fox, Waterstones Children's specialist: "As always, Alexander Martin writes with terrific flair and humour, lovingly creating a cast of unforgettable felines."Alexander Martin: "Although I wrote these stories for children they seem to have been as popular with adults. The theme is humour, which is surely universal, and is neither gender specific nor age specific. . These stories are equally popular with boys and girls, somewhat unusual for stories written for children. We all enjoy laughing! • Stanley Smartpants and the Haddock Virus

    Alexander Martin

    (, April 8, 2020)
A fun short story for children and adults. A Chinese boat, named Sweet 'n Sour Wing Wang, is chugging slowly into Brixcat Harbour. The boat deck is overflowing with haddock. Most of the fish are writhing and squirming around, clearly nowhere near dead. A short yellow Chinese cat is wielding a baseball bat, and is bashing as many haddock as he can over the head. Chief Inspector Dimwit, of the Cat-Haven Cat-Police, jumps onto the boat to intervene. Unfortunately a demented haddock, in its last moments of life, leaps into the air like a salmon from the River Dee, and smacks him in the mouth. Two days later Chief Inspector Dimwit is taken into Torcat Hospital suffering from a severe case of Haddock Virus.
