Elizabeth described how she turned from the vanity of dressing finely and clothed herself with humility of Christ. The visits and letters between them are recorded in this rich testimony of God's work. In 1828, it was reported that 4,000,000 copies of The Dairyman's Daughter were circulated in nineteen different languages, resulting in a multitude of saving graces. This is the unabridged version and includes a brief biography of Legh Richmond by Rev. John Ayre (1801-1869). Also included are reports of several visits to the Isle of Wight years afterward.

This is the inspiring true story of Elizabeth Wallbridge, a young woman who was born, lived and died in the village of Arreton, nearby the Parish of Brading on the Isle of Wight, England. Her family were of the poor hard-working class. Elizabeth lived an unremarkable life of a mostly worldly character. Though never immoral, she was by her own admission, a willful, proud, selfish and irreligious person. Her heart, however, was dramatically transformed by a sermon she heard at the age of 26 years old and as a result of God’s saving grace she became a very devout Christian lady. Gifted with exceptional intellect and memory, and because God would set her aside through frail health, she devoted her time and strength to mastering Christian classics and to the study of the Bible, becoming remarkably proficient. After a prolonged illness, she went to meet her Savior at only 31 years of age. During her illness, Reverend Legh Richmond, the Curate of Brading, and a religious writer of the period visited her often and the discussions they shared compelled him to write this now famous book.

Leigh Richmond was a curate in a nearby Parish and authored this book. In her middle 20's Elizabeth heard a sermon that changed her life. Her became an avid scholar of the Bible. Some writers have felt that "The Dairyman's Daughter" has had a more extensive influence and a wider circulation than any other similar publication of that period. The book begins as follows. . "It is a delightful employment to discover and trace the operations of Divine grace, as they are manifested in the dispositions and lives of God's real children. It is peculiarly gratifying to observe how frequently, among the poorer classes of mankind, the sunshine of mercy beams upon the heart, and bears witness to the image of Christ which the Spirit of God has impressed thereupon. Among such, the sincerity and simplicity of the Christian character appear unencumbered by those obstacles to spirituality of mind and conversation, which too often prove a great hindrance to those who live in the higher ranks. "
