An exploration of the various debates surrounding the African-American slave trade. As well as describing the causes and events in the main text, this title consists of three different kinds of panels that appear throughout - the first examining events in question, the second examining key people (eg politicians), the third following the "what if?" approach, for this title, "what if there had been no American Civil War?" Split into thematically-based chapters, the book clearly and logically examines the many questions raised both at the time of the slave trade, and since, with facts and opinions from leading historians.
