Paperback (Leopold Classic Library, May 8, 2015)
About the Book Books dealing with State and local histories in the United States may examine a city, a suburb, a municipality, a region, a community, an association, a church group, or the entire State. In fact, local history, is the largest category of history publishing. Often being of the community that is the subject of the book, local or regional historians can provide a specific insight into their subject matter. Also in this Book Titles in this category recount travel across the lands that form part of the great myth of the West. The western part of the United States has often been referred to simply as “The West”. Western expansion in the United States really began to progress after 1800 and the frontier moved further and further as time went by. The West includes the Rocky Mountains, the Great Basin and the West Coast. And in this Book Major Indigenous tribes of the Great Lakes region of the Midwest included: the Hurons, Ottawa, Chippewas or Ojibwas, Potawatomis, Winnebago (Ho-chunk), Menominees, Sacs, Neutrals, Fox, and the Miami. Hurons and Chippewas were most numerous. Some tribes, such as Sac, Fox, and Miami, both hunted and farmed. They depended on the open prairies where they engaged in communal hunts for buffalo (bison). Plains tribes occasionally engaged in agriculture, e.g. tobacco and corn. These included: the Blackfoot, Arapaho, Assiniboine, Cheyenne, Comanche, Crow, Gros Ventre, Kiowa, Lakota, Lipan, Plains Apache (or Kiowa Apache), Plains Cree, Plains Ojibwe, Sarsi, Shoshone, Stoney, and Tonkawa. Yankee settlers from New England began to arrive in Ohio prior to 1800, and then spread throughout the northern half of the Midwest. Most began as farmers, but many later moved to urban areas as entrepreneurs and professionals. Since its beginnings in the 1830s, and its development as a livestock and grain transport hub, Chicago grew to dominate the Midwestern metropolis landscape, and still does.About us Leopold Classic Library has the goal of making available to readers the classic books that have been out of print for decades. • Rob Wagner's California almanack

Paperback (Ulan Press, Aug. 31, 2012)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Paperback (HardPress Publishing, June 23, 2013)
Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

  • Rob Wagner's California Almanack

    Robert Leicester Wagner

Paperback (Forgotten Books, Jan. 5, 2019)
Excerpt from Rob Wagner's California AlmanackThere are two great geographic divisions on the earth's surface - California and Elsewhere; and as the Almanacks of Elsewhere, with their absurd seasons, weather predictions, and hints on the care of the body, are utterly useless in this Terrestrial Paradise, I feel it my duty to publish a California Almanack, both in the interest of science the Wagner family. It will be noted I have abandoned the old signs of the Zodiac with the nude man in the centre surrounded by Scorpions, Rams, Gemini and fishes. The picture of the man, with his abdomen agape, exposing a full set of open-plumbing, I consider indelicate, and why designate the months of the year by goats and other unpleasant aromas when the California Almanack should be symboled by a perpetual procession of Flowers? However, for those who still cherish a belief in Astrology, I shall drop in occasional hints regarding one's Erotic conduct during certain planetary influences, and if I find the pleasant days too numerous, I may include a few gentle rains. Finally I shall include recipes for making griddle cakes and glue, suitable epitaphs, hints on health, happiness and vacuum cleaners, the best times for marriage and divorce, snappy stories from Hollywood, the use of divining rods in oil speculation, how to get into the Movies, and other useful information.P. S. has always been quite immaterial to me whether Pocahontas kissed Smith on the 4th or 5th of July - the kiss alone is important. And so (having no head for figures - numerals I have not tried for complete chronological accuracy in certain events. Nor do I believe the average almanack reader gives a tinkers darn about astronomical information, and so 1 have scattered the moons about where they will best decorate the pages. I have not permitted local truths to clutter up the telling of the Greater Truth - The Truth about California and - Cal-Orine.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
