Bastian IV Experience is the first book in a series of Bastian Adventure books, helping young children prepare for medical procedures. It is meant for the caregiver to read with the 2-8 year old child, as preparation for the IV procedure, but can also be used as a therapeutic communication tool after the procedure. The book also contains a parent’s advice page- with tips on how to act during the procedure."These series of books are not only entertaining, but accurate. A must-read for any parent/child who wants to learn more about procedures in health care. They are perfect for preparing children (and their parent) in a way that will make them less anxious and hopefully more cooperative for whatever procedure they might need while in the hospital". Kala Parker, MD, Emergency Medicine"Hi Sofie!I just wanted to take the opportunity to give you some feedback on my first use of the Bastian IV Book.I have just finished starting an IV on a child who has been here multiple times, the most recent of which was just over a week ago. Apparently, the last time he was here he had a very traumatic IV experience, kicking and screaming, etc. Per the parents, it took 3 to 4 nurses/techs to hold him down and the child ended up with bruises from the holding. After hearing this story, I decided to give them your book to read through with the child. You'll be pleased to know that after he read the book, the child picked his own IV spot and sat still through the entire procedure with only one tech holding in the usual way. The family really appreciated the opportunity to ease their child into this process and the child felt like a big kid.Good work, Sofie! Thanks" Robyn HarveyRN, ED, Children’s Hospital Central California
