A little boy named Anders had a new cap, one that his mother had knitted for him He was very proud of it. Others admired it and sometimes offered items in trade for it, which Anders always refused. One day he visited the king's palace, and the king offered to exchange his crown for the hat. Frightened that he would lose his cap, the boy ran home. His brother ridiculed him for this, but his mother assured him that he could not have looked nicer in anything else. Anders has his cap and his self-esteem.
