In the early years of the 20th century criminal activity thrived in the Midwest between Chicago and St Louis. Al Capone was a feared, powerful crime figure. When two young boys undertook jobs of being runners for The Mob, their lives changed dramatically. And later, opposite from that, they traveled with a Medicine Man, a fake healer of those who believed in his powers. As a young man, Joe lost his mother, and ended up an innocent fellow trying to find his way in life. But at only 13 years old his experience was minimal, so it was not unusual that he made some choices that were strange but interesting.Since this is factual, it gives the reader an idea of life in those days. This was her father-in-law, a most remarkable man, as he related his life to her.
