Excerpt from Eclipses, Past and Future: With General Hints for Observing the HeavensIt Iias been ascertained, that if the latitude of the moon be less than 1° 23' at the time of new moon, there will be an eclipse of the sun; and, if less than 51' 57 at the time of full moon, there will be an eclipse of the moon. There cannot be less than two eclipses in any year, or more than seven; and we are unable to mention any year in which this maximum number was attained. We suppose the reader to be acquainted, more or less, with the theory of eclipses.
