    Sarah Fleming

Paperback (Cambridge University Press, March 30, 2000)
I Broke my Arm is part of the Key Skills strand (High Frequency Words) of Cambridge Reading. It is a recount by a child who falls off a swing and goes in an ambulance to hospital to have an x-ray and a plaster fitted. It ends with the child happy and back on the swing. Photographs are used to make the books real and relevant to children's own experiences. The language is simple with repetition of high frequency words - ideal for young readers in the Foundation stage (aged 4). There are 20 non-fiction books in the High Frequency Words strand, which provide a comprehensive resource for teaching the 45 NLS high-frequency words. The words are introduced in the context of real texts through three different text types - 'I remember' (recount), 'how to' (instruction) and 'find out about' (report).
