One man’s Memoir of time in the RN during the late fifties and the sixties as an artificer.Firstly as an apprentice from 1957 to his first ship, HMS Diana, as a UA killick tiff in a PO’s mess thru a submarine depot ship, a frigate in the Far East onto 2 aircraft carriers as a Chief Tiff ”neither sought nor wanted”. Then CinC’s technical staff before leaving in 1972 with 3 years Chief Tiff seniority, 10 years before Falkland’s. A tale of fun, mischief, avoidance, travel and peculiar adventure in a failed attempt to by-pass success.
