Ida Minerva Tarbell (1857 – 1944) was an Americanteacher, author and journalist. She wrote many notablemagazine series and biographies, and is best known forher 1904 book The History of the Standard OilCompany, which was listed as No. 5 in a 1999 list byNew York University of the top 100 works of 20thcentury American journalism.In 2000 she was induction into the National Women'sHall of Fame in Seneca Falls, New York.In 2002, the United States Postal Service issued acommemorative stamp honoring Ida M. She was one of the leading "muckrakers" of the progressive era of the late 19th and early 20th centuries and is thought to have pioneered investigative journalism. She wrote many other notable magazine series and biographies, including several works on President Abraham Lincoln, revealing his early life.
