    Harriet T. Comstock, AlwaysWrite Ent.

eBook (Little, Brown, and Co., May 14, 2014)
Harriet Theresa (Smith) Comstock (1860-1925) was born in Nichols, New York. She received her education in Plainfield, New Jersey, and married Philip Comstock of Brooklyn, New York in 1885. Among her novels, several containing religious themes, she also wrote children’s books. A prolific writer, Comstock’s books were hugely popular, and sold extensively. These include: Molly, the Drummer Boy (1900), The Man Thou Gavest (1917), Mam'selle Jo: A Novel of the St. Lawrence Country (1918), and many more. Unable to discover further personal information on this popular novelist, we must rely upon her stories to provide insight into the mind and soul of this much respected author. In Tower or Throne, the author relates the story of Queen Elizabeth I – from her birth to her coronation – from the point of view of ‘little Bess’ herself. Historians will note that some factual events are slightly altered, but it is interesting to read how Comstock portrays Henry VIII; his Queens; his country; and his children, as viewed through the eyes of young Elizabeth. The author introduces a delightful, and precocious child, who, through heart-breaking loss; abandonment; tribulations; and even imprisonment, grows up to become one of England’s best loved monarchs. Her portrayal leads the reader to want to learn much more about this fascinating Queen. Many of the books offered by AlwaysWrite Ent. are provided exactly as the author presented them in their original format. All works have been entered, and edited by hand, and not merely scanned. They have been spell-checked, and punctuation corrected where necessary.

This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

No word was spoken, the shining circlet was enough. The watcher groped for and found the signal in the grasses at his feet; then he mounted, with all speed, a horse which had been tethered near by, and rode like mad through the storm and darkness, to bear the news to Scotland's king, that Elizabeth, the mighty queen, was dead; and that he now reigned in her stead.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
