Ariana Dewitt starts out in a terrifying life and death experience when her mother’s boyfriend stabs her mother. Things turn from bad to worse when she goes to live with her grandmother while her mother recovers. There is something sinister lurking on her grandmother’s property in the Tennessee mountains. She makes a new friend while she’s there named Betty, a dead girl that helps Ariana to understand the trouble she’s in. An alliance is formed and a promise is made for Ariana to return when the timing is right to help Betty to defeat the evil presence so that Betty may finally rest in peace. Many years later, the horrors of her past feel like more of a bad dream to Ariana when a strangely familiar boy named Davis moves to Ariana’s school. From the moment she sees him, her past comes back to haunt her along with dreams of a long-forgotten promise she made to Betty. Something else is spurred with Davis’ arrival as well. Ariana starts gaining magical abilities that are stronger when Davis is around and she is not the only one. Will she be able to put her fears to the side and fulfill her promise to Betty or will she pay the ultimate price in her battle with the nefarious forces of the Great Beyond?
