  • On The Suwanee River: A Romance

    Opie Percival Read

Paperback (Ulan Press, Oct. 31, 2012)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Glad to see you, Com., old boss." "Doctor Block, I am pleased to present you to Miss Sibley," said Sappho, leading him forward. He snatched off his cap, and with the stiff brim, topped his head twice. "Glad to meet you--heard about you. Don't know where you're from, but I reckon I've been in your range--used to go everywhere with the races." Rose merely bowed, and the "Doctor," turning to Sappho, said: "She has given me the Dick Deadeye--scratches me." "Oh, isn't he a character!" Sappho cried. "And, Miss Rose, I know you'll like him when you are better acquainted. So original, so unexpected. There is a chair, doctor. Sit down." "Don't want to set. Set too much git like old hoss here after a while--want to set all the time." "Dr. Block, my name is Commodore Adams and not old hoss, sir." "All right, Com., old hoss; no harm done." "Oh, how humorously delightful," Sappho shouted. "Oh, what a delicious character--how unlocked for. Father, the doctor is going to take dinner with us. Won't that be charming?" "He is welcome at my board," the Commodore replied, " but I don't want any old hoss in mine. It isn't business." "All right, no favorites, give you a fair start--no handicap. What time do you eat, Miss Saph?" "Doctor, you must not call me that." "Call 'em back--got a bad start. Don't give me the bad eye." She was looking reproachfully at him. "I forgive you," Sappho sweetly declared, holding out her hand. With one finger he...
