That Saturday, they went to a council meeting. Crystal had only been to two meetings. I sat with her. When it came time for new business to be addressed, Mr. Shoemaker went forward. “I have come to make a motion to relieve Ms. Crystal White from her teacher position at the reservation school?” Mr. Shoemaker said. Crystal and I were in shock. Will asked, “On what grounds do you think she should be relieved?” “She is Rakshasi!” Mr. Shoemaker roared. The people gasped and mumbled. “What evidence of this, do you have?” I yelled. Can love conquer all? Fate and destiny prove true in a Native American legend as Crystal White takes a teaching position on a reservation, learns her heritage and finds that she is the link to the survival of her people when she falls in love with the handsome Jonny Black. When they are introduced through a mutual friend their true destinies abound and they must face the challenges their ancestors foretold. How much truth is in the legends and folklore? Can they survive apart? Crystal and Jonny begin their journey to discover their fate and each other. Love is territorial, love conquers loss, and love is patient. This is the second of 5 books in the Birdie series that chronicles the journey of Crystal and her family through several generations. Faith and love are key components to Crystal’s survival. As she encounters so much loss in her life, she still pushes on to encourage others. “Have faith, Chief. Don’t you believe yet?” Crystal said.
