Sometimes, what begins as a terrible idea, can turn out to be just the most fantastic, incredible, magical adventure ever.Brother and sister, Steven and Nicki Carlyle, are city kids. The last thing they want to do, for the rest of their summer vacation, is spent it on a farm in the middle of nowhere. But, sometimes, being a kid just isn’t fair. They don’t have a choice.Thirteen years old, Steven knows he’ll be bored to death with no internet and no wi-fi. Nicki, at 10, can’t imagine spending a month away from her friends. But what starts as a horrible experience, turns out to be something quite different. When they get on the bus to rural New York, they have no idea just how far it will take them, across country and across time. They can’t imagine what is waiting for them. Oh, there are lots of animals and plenty of work to do, it’s a farm after all. And Aunt Flo and Uncle Harold are wonderful, but the other kids in the neighborhood are not about to accept them. They must make their own fun and depend on each other. While exploring the farm they find an abandoned Spring House, and that’s where the magic begins. When they walk into the fog, they find themselves somewhere and sometime very different. They discover they are in the year 1779 and in the middle of the Revolutionary War. They meet Amanda and Nathaniel Van Boer, a sister and brother about their own ages, there and learn about their lives. The time is dangerous. Will the four kids become involved in the troubles? Can they protect the van Boer family and neighbors? But what can they do? They’re only kids after all. The author, Patricia Faber, has loved the adventure and magic of books since she was old enough to read. Sharing this love of books is why she began writing books of her own. History is another love of hers and making history come alive, for her readers, is the reason behind the writing of her ‘Adventures in Time Series’. A long-time resident of Western New York, she features the beauty and history of this area in the first book in this new series. She now lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with her Fat Cat, Oscar. She is currently working on the second book in the ‘Adventures in Time Series’ and a story about an ancestor of hers called ‘A Drummer Boy’.
