Excerpt from Three PlaysThis was the turning point of his career. Next day, while trying to figure out some way of persuading his stepmother to bring about a reconciliation with his father, he visualized the scene, played as clearly as on a stage, and in two hours had two acts of a comedy worked out. In four days he had finished his first play, and although it was not accepted, the compliments he received restored his confidence.Within two months he had written two com edies and a tragedy in verse, Hermione, which was later produced. He returned to Upsala in 1870, for he was advised that he would never be recognized as a writer without a university degree. Hardcover (Forgotten Books, Jan. 24, 2018)
Excerpt from Three PlaysAs the curtain rises, Marian is discovered, seated in the armchair. She is a young woman of twenty seven. Although at one time beautiful, her body is now wasted by disease. The face is oval and of sallow complexion, save for a hectic flush on either cheek. The eyes are dark and unnaturally bright, the lips thin and compressed. Her black hair is parted in the middle, and hangs in two plaits over her thin shoulders. A few stray wisps curl limply on her forehead and neck, damp with the sweat of the consumptive. She wears an old red flannel kimono, a dark skirt, black cotton stockings, and red felt slippers with pompoms. Her sleeves are rolled back to the elbows, showing her wasted arms and the transparent hands are folded in her lap. She is leaning back against the cushions with her head on the pillow, her whole attitude being one of extreme exhaustion.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Noel Leslie

Paperback (Ulan Press, Aug. 31, 2012)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.
  • Three Plays: Waste. The War-Fly for King and Country

    Noel Leslie

Paperback (Leopold Classic Library, Aug. 23, 2016)
About the Book Military history texts discuss the historical record of armed conflict in the history of humanity, its impact on people, societies, and their cultures. Some fundamental subjects of military history study are the causes of war, its social and cultural foundations, military doctrines, logistics, leadership, technology, strategy, and tactics used, and how these have developed over time. Thematic divisions of military history may include: Ancient warfare, Medieval warfare, Gunpowder warfare, Industrial warfare, and Modern warfare. Also in this Book Military strategy texts present ideas for military organizations to achieve their desired strategic goals. Military strategy discusses the planning and conduct of campaigns, the movement and disposition of forces, and how to deceive the enemy. Carl von Clausewitz (1780–1831), defined military strategy as "the employment of battles to gain the end of war." B. H. Liddell Hart defined strategy as "the art of distributing and applying military means to fulfill the ends of policy", which places more emphasis on political aims relative to military goals. Sun Tzu (544-496 BC) is the father of Eastern military strategy and greatly influenced Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese war tactics. His book The Art of War has been very popular and has seen practical implementation in Western societies. And in this Book Books on the military history of the United States span a period of more than two centuries, over which the United States evolved from a rebellious colony of Great Britain (the American War of Independence, 1775–1783), through the disastrous American Civil War (1861–1865), late but vital participation in World War 1 (1917-18), and a critical role in World War II (1941–1945), to the world's foremost superpower from the late 20th century to present. About us Leopold Classic Library has the goal of making available to readers the classic books that have been out of print for decades. While these books may have occasional imperfections, we consider that only hand checking of every page ensures readable content without poor picture quality, blurred or missing text etc. That's why we: republish only hand checked books; that are high quality; enabling readers to see classic books in original formats; that are unlikely to have missing or blurred pages. You can search "Leopold Classic Library" in categories of your interest to find other books in our extensive collection. Happy reading!
