As the European settlers moved into the North American continent and then began warring against each other, the military fort became the focal point of control. In order to maintain that power, the forts had to be solidly built and well organized. Many of the forts that figure so strongly in the history of the United States have been turned into tourist attractions and this book is a brief description of several of them. The descriptions also include pictures of the forts after they have been restored. The featured forts include: Castillo de San Marcos in Florida, Fort Clatsop in Oregon, Castle Clinton in New York, Fort Frederica in Georgia, Fort Laramie in Wyoming and more.
