  • Blood-Stains: Their Detection, and the Determination of Their Source: A Manual for the Medical and Legal Professions

    W. D. Sutherland

Paperback (Forgotten Books, Feb. 16, 2018)
Excerpt from Blood-Stains: Their Detection, and the Determination of Their Source: A Manual for the Medical and Legal ProfessionsAS there does not exist in any language of which I have knowledge a compendium Of the modern tests by which the detection of blood-stains and the determination of their source may be carried out, I have endeavoured to supply this want by putting at the disposal of the Medical Profession, the Bench, and the Bar a full account of these tests. I have at the same time traced the rise Of the jurisprudence Of blood-stains, for the Older tests are valuable in that they Show that in the path that leads to truth there are many pitfalls, into which not a few in their eager haste to reach the goal have fallen, and which it is well to mark.TO the reader - especially the non-medical reader - Of too many Of the text-books Of legal medicine that have appeared in the English language, the impression conveyed by their perusal must be that by chemical means alone, without the aid Of spectroscope or microscope, it is easy enough to determine whether a given stain is or is not due to blood; and that it is wellnigh impossible, with the aid Of all means at our command, to say whether this blood has been shed by man or by another mammal. That the real state Of affairs is not quite this I believe that I have shown.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. • Blood-Stains: Their Detection, and the Determination of Their Source: A Manual for the Medical and Legal Professions

    William Dunbar Sutherland

Paperback (Ulan Press, Aug. 31, 2012)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

  • Blood-stains, their detection and the determination of their source

    W. D. Sutherland

Paperback (Leopold Classic Library, Aug. 19, 2015)
Leopold Classic Library is delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive collection. As part of our on-going commitment to delivering value to the reader, we have also provided you with a link to a website, where you may download a digital version of this work for free. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. Whilst the books in this collection have not been hand curated, an aim of our publishing program is to facilitate rapid access to this vast reservoir of literature. As a result of this book being first published many decades ago, it may have occasional imperfections. These imperfections may include poor picture quality, blurred or missing text. While some of these imperfections may have appeared in the original work, others may have resulted from the scanning process that has been applied. However, our view is that this is a significant literary work, which deserves to be brought back into print after many decades. While some publishers have applied optical character recognition (OCR), this approach has its own drawbacks, which include formatting errors, misspelt words, or the presence of inappropriate characters. Our philosophy has been guided by a desire to provide the reader with an experience that is as close as possible to ownership of the original work. We hope that you will enjoy this wonderful classic book, and that the occasional imperfection that it might contain will not detract from the experience.
