"WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD!"he magical stories of the Land of Oz have been a favorite with children and adults since they first appeared in 1900. Originally created by L. Frank Baum as bedtime stories for his children, this collection of four classic American fairy tales includes the perennial delight The Wizard of Oz, as well as Queen Zixi of Ix, The Land of Oz and Little Oz Stories. The Wizard of Oz, the story of Dorothy and her three companions, the Scarecrow, Tin Woodsman, and Cowardly Lion, has become part of the folklore of childhood. After publication, it was a long-running Broadway hit before being made into the fantastic movie version in 1938. One of the best fantasies ever written, Queen Zixi of Ix is the story of a magic cloak, woven by fairies with the power to grant its wearer a wish. Listeners will delight in the results the cloak brings. The Land of Oz recounts the adventures of the Tin Woodsman and the Scarecrow with Tip, a little boy who lives just outside the city of Oz with an old witch, and their magical friend, Jack Pumpkinhead. Finally, the Litl Oz Storties relate numerous tales including Dorothy's return to visit with her old friends, how Glinda the Good Witch returned Oz to its rightful ruler, Princess Ozma, and the Woggle-bug's visit with Santa Claus. Ray Bolger, the actor known to generations as the lovable Scarecrow in the movie The Wizard of 0z, reads these wonderful tales with his memorable and uniquely expressive style. Few fantasy lands have captured our hearts and imaginations so enduringly as Oz, the world created by L. Frank Baum. Here Ray Bolger, who played the Scarecrow in the classic 1939 film, reads from four Oz favorites: The Wizard of Oz, Queen Zixi of Iz, The Land of Oz, and Little Oz Stories.
