Paperback (Red Pine Publishing, May 18, 2019)
Perry Normal is a middle school science buff who has extraordinary adventures that defy scientific explanation. In this tale, he journeys back to Florida with his best friend Henry Schuyler and sets out on a journey that will take him into The Bermuda Triangle and a vortex or time-slip that carries them back to 1691. Together with their old skipper from Ft. Lauderdale, they are captured by pirates under an energetic young commander who sails the Spanish Main looking for plunder. They visit the infamous Port Royal to get supplies and have some vacation time. They learn the history of the Caribbean pirates and encounter slaves from Africa, fugitives from France and Russia, and teach their captain the basics of geographical navigation in their search for Spanish treasure. The reality of a pirate's life is presented but with a lighter tone, appropriate to younger readers. Overall, this is a highly entertaining tale with lots of surprises and insight into the culture and life of the 17th C. Caribbean and American colonies.
