This series of delightful storybooks is a flexible resource designed to help teachers engage and motivate young learners in the classroom. They are an ideal way to support children in the early stages of learning English. Teacher's Books and Audio Cassettes/CDs make the Storybooks simple to use: the Teacher's Books cover the entire level and include step-by-step teaching notes with ideas for classes of different ability, photocopiable worksheets, and 'If you have time' sections suggesting original ideas for games and activities. The Audio Cassettes/CDs feature all the titles in each level read aloud, exposing children to different voices while they have fun listening to the dramatisations. Suitable for children in Year 1 (age 5), Billy's Box is from the Cambridge Reading genre strand Stories about Fantasy Worlds, a strand has proven to be successful with children who are reluctant to read. Billy's Box is one of nine books written and illustrated by John Prater. Each story in this set of nine features a child who finds a large box. When the box is opened a fantasy character emerges (there is a hedgehog in Billy's box, with some magical paper and scissors) and the child and the character have an adventure together, always with an amusing twist. Cambridge Reading at Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) offers fiction, non-fiction, poetry and plays to introduce children to a variety of text types, authors and illustrators and provide a firm base for wider reading.
