Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson; Illustrated and UnabridgedTreasure Island is an adventure novel by Robert Louis Stevenson, originally serialized from 1881 to 1882 as a story for boys in the children's magazine Young Folks titled "The Sea Cook." It is a romantic, adventurous tale about a young boy's involvement with murderous pirates. It was first published as a book by Cassell & Co on November 14, 1883, and continues to have enormous influence on movies popularizing one's perception of pirates by presentation of one-legged seamen bearing parrots on their shoulders, treasure maps marked with an "X", schooners, the Black Spot, and tropical islands. Stevenson conceived the idea of Treasure Island from a map of an imaginary, romantic island idly drawn by Stevenson and his stepson Lloyd Osbourne on a rainy day in Braemar, Scotland.
