ILLUSTRATED VERSION:Contains 10 illustrations depicting key characters from the Bible including* Mary* Jesus Christ* St. Peter* St. PaulOVERVIEWAiden Wilson Tozer (April 21, 1897 - May 12, 1963) was an American Christian pastor, preacher, author, magazine editor, Bible conference speaker, and spiritual mentor. Hailing from a tiny farming community in western La Jose, Pennsylvania, his conversion was as a teenager in Akron, Ohio. While on his way home from work at a tire company, he overheard a street preacher say: "If you don't know how to be saved... just call on God." Upon returning home, he climbed into the attic and heeded the preacher’s advice. In 1919, five years after his conversion, and without formal theological training, Tozer accepted an offer to pastor his first church. This began 44 years of ministry, associated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA), a Protestant evangelical denomination; 33 of those years were served as a pastor in a number of churches. His first pastorate was in a small storefront church in Nutter Fort, West Virginia. Tozer also served as pastor for 30 years at Southside Alliance Church, in Chicago (1928 to 1959), and the final years of his life were spent as pastor of Avenue Road Church, in Toronto, Canada.Among the more than 40 books that he authored, at least two are regarded as Christian classics: The Pursuit of God and The Knowledge of the Holy. His books impress on the reader the possibility and necessity for a deeper relationship with God.Living a simple and non-materialistic lifestyle, he and his wife, Ada Cecelia Pfautz, never owned a car, preferring bus and train travel. Prayer was of vital personal importance for Tozer. "His preaching as well as his writings were but extensions of his prayer life," comments his biographer, James L. Snyder, in the book, In Pursuit of God: The Life Of A.W. Tozer. "He had the ability to make his listeners face themselves in the light of what God was saying to them," writes Snyder.TABLE OF CONTENTSINTRODUCTIONPREFACEI FOLLOWING HARD AFTER GODII THE BLESSEDNESS OF POSSESSING NOTHINGIII REMOVING THE VEILIV APPREHENDING GODV THE UNIVERSAL PRESENCEVI THE SPEAKING VOICEVII THE GAZE OF THE SOULVIII RESTORING THE CREATOR-CREATURE RELATIONIX MEEKNESS AND RESTX THE SACRAMENT OF LIVINGEXCERPTWhether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.—I Cor. 10:31One of the greatest hindrances to internal peace which the Christian encounters is the common habit of dividing our lives into two areas, the sacred and the secular. As these areas are conceived to exist apart from each other and to be morally and spiritually incompatible, and as we are compelled by the necessities of living to be always crossing back and forth from the one to the other, our inner lives tend to break up so that we live a divided instead of a unified life. Our trouble springs from the fact that we who follow Christ inhabit at once two worlds, the spiritual and the natural. As children of Adam we live our lives on earth subject to the limitations of the flesh and the weaknesses and ills to which human nature is heir. Merely to live among men requires of us years of hard toil and much care and attention to the things of this world. In sharp contrast to this is our life in the Spirit. There we enjoy another and higher kind of life; we are children of God; we possess heavenly status and enjoy intimate fellowship with Christ. This tends to divide our total life into two departments. We come unconsciously to recognize two sets of actions. The first are performed with a feeling of satisfaction and a firm assurance that they are pleasing to God. These are the sacred acts and they are usually thought to be prayer, Bible reading, hymn singing, church attendance and such other acts as spring directly from faith.
  • The Pursuit of God

A.W. Tozer, Alastair Cameron, A.R.N. Publications

    Audible Audiobook (A.R.N. Publications, Dec. 11, 2015)
The Pursuit of God is a deeply spiritual book that focuses on forming a relationship with God through Christianity. In the first chapter, Tozer suggests that in order to know God, one must strip down to the bare necessities and focus entirely on the pursuit. Although putting God first can be difficult, Tozer asserts that doing so will effectively bring God into one's life. The book makes several references to the Bible, and it discusses some of the main points in eloquent detail. In order for God to be a part of one's life, all selfishness and desires must be put aside. Having too many belongings and desires can put a barrier between God and the individual. Tozer states that since God is everywhere, individuals must always have God as the top priority. Through loving God, the individual will naturally love themselves and others without selfishness or pride. The burdens of pride and selfishness, as well as any other burdens, are meant to be freed by coming to Jesus. The book offers a real look into Christianity, as well as explaining conceptual elements in the pursuit of finding God.

  • The Pursuit of God

    A W Tozer

Paperback (Glh Publishing, Oct. 1, 2018)
"As the heart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God." This thirst for an intimate relationship with God, claims A.W. Tozer, is not for a select few, but should be the experience of every follower of Christ. But, he asserts, it is all too rare when believers have become conditioned by tradition to accept standards of mediocrity, and the church struggles with formality and worldliness. Using examples from Scripture and from the lives of saints who lived with this thirst for God, Tozer sheds light on the path to a closer walk with God.
  • The Pursuit of God: The Human Thirst for the Divine

    A. W. Tozer

    Hardcover (Wingspread, Jan. 1, 2007)
Tozer's bestseller, this book has been called "one of the all-time most inspirational books" by a panel of Christian magazine writers.Sometimes the voices that speak most clearly in the present are those that echo from the past. So it is in this Christian classic by the late pastor and evangelist A. W. Tozer. Tozer brings the mystics to bear on modern spirituality, grieving the hustle and bustle and calling for a slow, steady gaze upon God. With prophetic vigor and flowing prose, he urges us to replace low thoughts of God with lofty ones, to quiet our lives so we can know God’s presence. He reminds us that life apart from God is really no life at all. Tozer writes from his knees, a posture fit for presenting the character of God in all its demanding grandeur. "Arise, O sleeper!" is his word to us, and yet if we heed the call, we will see that to arise is not to stand, but to kneel before the God of heaven in humble contemplation. To pursue God is to know Him, and in our knowing be drawn in.The Pursuit of God is a Christian classic about reclaiming God’s presence in a clamoring world. Bringing the mystics to bear on modern spirituality, A.W. Tozer raises high our thoughts of God, makes low our love for the world, and draws our gaze to the heights of heaven.

  • The Pursuit of God

    A. W. Tozer

    Paperback (Digireads.com Publishing, May 25, 2017)
American Christian Pastor A. W. Tozer hailed from the Midwest where as a teenager he overheard a street preacher say, “If you don't know how to be saved ... just call on God, saying, ‘Lord, be merciful to me a sinner.’” It was in this moment that he converted to Christianity and began his own pursuit of a more pious life. Of Tozer’s “The Pursuit of God” Samuel M. Zwemer remarks in his introduction that it “is the result of long meditation and much prayer. It is not a collection of sermons. It does not deal with the pulpit and the pew but with the soul athirst for God. The chapters could be summarized in Moses’ prayer, ‘Show me thy glory,’ or Paul’s exclamation, ‘O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!’ It is theology not of the head but of the heart. ... Here is a book for every pastor, missionary, and devout Christian. It deals with the deep things of God and the riches of His grace. Above all, it has the keynote of sincerity and humility.” Arguably Tozer’s most popular work “The Pursuit of God” will be an insightful read for every Christian who ventures down its path in pursuit of God. This edition is printed on premium acid-free paper.
