    Maxim Gorky

Paperback (Forgotten Books, April 2, 2019)
Excerpt from Reminiscences of Leo Nicolayevitch TolstoiKnotted with swollen veins, and yet full of a singular expressiveness and the power of creative ness. Probably Leonardo da Vinci had hands like that. With such hands one can do anything. Sometimes, when talking, he will move his fingers, gradually close them into a fist, and then, suddenly opening them, utter a good, full-weight word. He is like a god, not a Sabaoth or Olympian, but the kind of Russian god who sits on a maple throne under a golden lime tree, not very majestic, but perhaps more cunning than all the other gods.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. • Reminiscences of Leo Nikolaevich Tolstoy

Maxim Gorky, S. S. Koteliansky, Leonard Woolf

Paperback (Dodo Press, Sept. 11, 2009)
Aleksei Maksimovich Peshkov (better known as Maxim Gorky) (1868-1936), was a popular and influential Russian author, a founder of the socialist realism literary method and arguably the greatest Russian literary figure of the 20th century. He wrote stories, plays, memoirs and novels which touched the imagination of the Russian people, and was the first Russian author to write sympathetically of such characters as tramps and thieves, emphasizing their daily struggles against overwhelming odds. His works include: The Man Who Was Afraid (1901), Twenty-Six and One and Other Stories (1902), Children of the Sun (1905), Mother (1907) - one of his best-loved books, about a mother who secretly distributes forbidden literature, sowing truth and hope amongst the people of Russia - Creatures That Once Were Men (1918), Untimely Thoughts (1918) and Through Russia (1921).

  • Reminiscences of Leo Nikolaevich Tolstoy

    Maksim Gorky

Paperback (Forgotten Books, June 27, 2012)
These fragmentary notes were written by me during the period when I lived in Oleise and Leo Nikolaevich at Gaspra in the Crimea. They cover the period of Tolstoy sserious illness and of his subsequent recovery. The notes were carelessly jotted down on scraps of paper, and I thought I had lost them, but recently I have found some of them. .. .I include here an unfinished letter written by me under the influence of the going away of Leo Nikolaevich from Yasnaya Polyana, and of his death. I publish the letter just as it was written at the time and without correcting a single word; and I do not finish it, for somehow or other this is not possible. M. Gorky.(Typographical errors above are due to OCR software and don't occur in the book.)About the Publisher Forgotten Books is a publisher of historical writings, such as: Philosophy, Classics, Science, Religion, History, Folklore and Mythology.Forgotten Books' Classic Reprint Series utilizes the latest technology to regenerate facsimiles of historically important writings.
