Two teenagers, HiRo Three and his younger female friend SoSi Seven, discover a strange green light in the mountains near their home. The light sucks them in, and they are catapulted into space. They go on a journey across galaxies to a mysterious place where they are reforged and become Silver Butterflies, the shape they will take when they are in space. After this they travel through the six of the Levels of Knowledge, in which they encounter the Guardians, the Children of the Light, and the Universal Cruiser which is piloted by a snooty computer called Multicom. The two youngsters also come up against the darker forces of the fiery bats, the black dragon, and the power of Nekor, the Dark One. At the seventh and final level they meet The Prime Light, the oldest intelligence in the Universe.....

Two teenagers, HiRo Three and his younger female friend SoSi Seven, live in a time somewhen in the future and in a peaceful but indolent society. Their home is agriculturally simple but with mysterious traces of an apparently more advanced time. HiRo is intrigued by a strange green light in the nearby mountains, which has always been there but about which nobody is willing to talk. He is frustrated by this and decides to find out for himself. So he sets out, taking a protesting SoSi with him. After an exhausting journey they discover what would become known as the Jade Ice, a mountain valley filled with a pulsating green energy. This engulfs them and they experience being battered, bruised and strangely changed. And find themselves suspended in space, among the stars. It is the beginning of a tremendous journey; exhilarating, terrifying, and ending up at the Centre of All Things. This is the tale of their unbelievable adventure.
