  • The King's Cup-Bearer: The amazing story of Nehemiah and his building of the wall of Jerusalem.

    Mrs. O.F. Walton

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, June 14, 2014)
This excellent book, by Mrs. Walton, give much historical and geographical information which enhances the story of Nehemiah and his building of the wall of Jerusalem. God's lessons remain fresh and living for every generation. This carefully written account of the life of Nehemiah not only draws lessons from his life but also draws you into his life in Artaxerxes' palace, in the desert and surrounded by enemies at Jerusalem. ā€œThis book may serve very well as a gift to a pupil in a Sunday class who has taken a liking for Biblical history. It is really a study, in sixteen chapters, of the life of Nehemiah, and these chapters partake a good deal of the character of sermons, under such appropriate titles as " The King's Table," " The Sword and the Trowel," "The Eighty-four Seals," " Having No Root," and " The Oldest Sin." Mrs. Walton is thoroughly in earnest, and has studied her subject very profoundly according to her lights. She has also, after her own fashion, made the times of Nehemiah live again, and has contrived, with undoubted skill, to introduce into her different chapters wise and inspiriting sayings from both the old and the more modern or Puritan Fathers.ā€ -The Spectator TABLE of CONTENTS CHAPTER Iā€”The City of Lilies. CHAPTER IIā€”The Kingā€™s Table. CHAPTER IIIā€”The Good Hand. CHAPTER IVā€”To Every Man his Work CHAPTER Vā€”The Sword and the Trowel. CHAPTER VIā€”The Worldā€™s Bible. CHAPTER VIIā€”True to his Post. CHAPTER VIIIā€”The Paidagogos. CHAPTER IXā€”The Secret of Strength. CHAPTER Xā€”The Eighty-four Seals. CHAPTER XIā€”The Brave Volunteers. CHAPTER XIIā€”The Holy City. CHAPTER XIIIā€”Having no Root. CHAPTER XIVā€”Strong Measures. CHAPTER XVā€”The Oldest Sin. CHAPTER XVIā€”Godā€™s Remembrance.

  • The King's Cup-Bearer

    O. F. Walton

Paperback (Dodo Press, Dec. 14, 2007)
Amy Catherine Walton (1849-1939), better known as Mrs. O. F. Walton, was a British author of Christian children's and teenage books, mainly but not exclusively fiction. Her career as an author of children's books began in 1870 with My Mates and I, followed by at least two others. Then in 1874 came one of her best known books, Christie's Old Organ, which has been regularly reprinted up to the present day. It is the story of orphaned Christie and his friend the aged organ-grinder Treffy. Although she wrote many more books, it is A Peep Behind the Scenes and Christie's Old Organ which have remained well known, continuing to be published by the Lutterworth Press, successor to her original publisher, the Religious Tract Society, until at least the late 20th century, and later available from other publishers, along with occasional reprints of a few of her other works, such as Saved at Sea (1879), to the present day. Her other works include Christie, The King's Servant (1898) and The King's Cup-Bearer (1891).
