They find a gold double eagle and a note written in German in an abandoned pub, which was once a log cabin. They take their coin to a german pawnbroker who claims the coin is worthliess. The note leads to treasure and the pawnbroker and the kid's battle to find the treasure first. The theme of forgiveness is played out by the arguments of the boys. Each boy thinks his plan of finding the treasure is best. Also the adults have a common past and are in need of forgiveness.

They go to a pawnbrokers house to have their coins assessed. The pawnbroker says the coins are not worth much and the note is a love letter. The truth is that the note is the clue to an extremly valuable treasure of buried gold double eagles. The pawnbroker and the kids battle to find the treasure first.
