In November of 1863, after the Battle of Gettysburg, President Lincoln arrives to dedicate the battlefield as a national cemetery to the fallen soldiers. For Ted and Julie Banks, who go to the dedication ceremony with their father, a veteran of the battle, it is an opportunity to see the president and travel with their father, whom they have not seen lately. However, for Ted, sneaking into the presidential train car and finding a top hat with pieces of paper inside offers him a chance to influence a historic event.
