Hannah More had a gift for writing and was set to become one of the leading literary lights of her day. Quite an accomplishment for a woman in the 1700s. However, over time she came to realise that public recognition was not the secret to a life of peace or happiness; only Jesus Christ could fulfil her life. Hannah More went to defend women's rights and education. She stands beside the names of William Wilberforce and John Newton as a supporter of the anti-slavery movement.
Well educated and with a gift for writing, Hannah More was set to become one of the leading lights in the literary and artistic circles of the 1700s. Gradually, however, she realised that only Jesus Christ could bring her fulfilment. Hannah More is best known today for her penmanship but also for her defence of women's rights and her anti-slavery stance. Her life of would-be-fame was changed to a life of faith.
