Francis P. Church was the editor who brought us Yes, Virginia There is a Santa Claus. As memorable as this editorial was, there is another that fits the same mold and conveys incredible heart and care. This is just such an editorial that bears all the marks of great storytelling. • Is there a Santa Claus? Published 1904

NO Santa Claus! If you had asked that car full of people I would haveliked to hear the answers they would have given you. No Santa Claus! Why, there was scarce a man in the lot who didn't carry a bundle thatlooked as if it had just tumbled out of his sleigh. I felt of one slyly, and it was a boy's sled--a "flexible flyer," I know, because he leftone at our house the Christmas before; and I distinctly heard therattling of a pair of skates in that box in the next seat. They were allgood-natured, every one, though the train was behind time--that is asure sign of Christmas. The brakeman wore a piece of mistletoe in hiscap and a broad grin on his face, and he said "Merry Christmas" in a wayto make a man feel good all the rest of the day. No Santa Claus, isthere? You just ask him!And then the train rolled into the city under the big gray dome to whichGeorge Washington gave his name, and by-and-by I went through a doorwaywhich all American boys would rather see than go to school a whole week, though they love their teacher dearly. It is true that last winter myown little lad told the kind man whose house it is that he would ratherride up and down in the elevator at the hotel, but that was because hewas so very little at the time and didn't know things rightly, and, besides, it was his first experience with an elevator.

Paperback (Leopold Classic Library, May 6, 2015)
Leopold Classic Library is delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive collection. As part of our on-going commitment to delivering value to the reader, we have also provided you with a link to a website, where you may download a digital version of this work for free. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. Whilst the books in this collection have not been hand curated, an aim of our publishing program is to facilitate rapid access to this vast reservoir of literature. As a result of this book being first published many decades ago, it may have occasional imperfections. These imperfections may include poor picture quality, blurred or missing text. While some of these imperfections may have appeared in the original work, others may have resulted from the scanning process that has been applied. However, our view is that this is a significant literary work, which deserves to be brought back into print after many decades. While some publishers have applied optical character recognition (OCR), this approach has its own drawbacks, which include formatting errors, misspelt words, or the presence of inappropriate characters. Our philosophy has been guided by a desire to provide the reader with an experience that is as close as possible to ownership of the original work. We hope that you will enjoy this wonderful classic book, and that the occasional imperfection that it might contain will not detract from the experience.

  • Is there a Santa Claus?

    Jacob A. 1849-1914 Riis

Paperback (Ulan Press, Aug. 31, 2012)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.
