She remembered taking a journey with her mother on the cars when she was nine years old - a journey of seven hours' duration - and the marvelous experiences of that day she sometimes went over, even now, for Daisy's benefit. It was her one journey, and she had all an intelligent girl's longing for travel and the experiences to be gained by travel.The very toot-toot of the engine, as it halted for a few seconds at the depot around the corner, and then hurried on with increased speed, apparently sorry for having lost so much time, made her cheek flush and her heart beat faster.
