    L. M. Boston's thrilling and chilling tales of Green Knowe, a haunted manor deep in an overgrown garden in the English countryside, have been entertaining readers for half a century. In this second book, Tolly returns for easter vacation to find that the portrait of Toby, Alexander and Linnet is missing—loaned out by his grandmother to a museum, possibly to be sold at the end of the exhibition because she needs money to mend the roof. Tolly is horrified, and then with the help of Susan and Jacob (Susan an ancestor of his from 1800) he learns about Green Knowe during their lifetime, and—yes—finds the treasure which was lost while they were living.

“As distinguished and truly captivating as the first book. A book as fine as this has no age limits. “ -- New York Herald Tribune Book Review “A memorable, beautifully written story in which realism and fantasy are expertly blended. “ -- Booklist The ghosts are missing! The grand old painting of Toby, Linnet, and Alexander has been given to an art museum for a summer exhibition and the ghosts have gone with it! Even worse, Grandmother Oldknow may have to sell the painting to keep the manor house in the family. If that happens, the children of Green Knowe may be gone forever. But Tolly discovers that the house holds many other magical secrets --including a family treasure that disappeared generations ago. If Tolly can solve a few mysteries, he might be able to find the treasure and save the house, the painting, and his ghost friends! Lucy Maria Boston (1892-1990) purchased a ramshackle manor house near Cambridge, England, in 1935, which she lovingly restored over a period of two years. It is the house that inspired her to take pen in hand and create the beloved Green Knowe chronicles. L. M. Boston said she wrote her books to please herself, but the pleasure of her stories extends to all who read them. Simon Vance is a native of Brighton, England. After graduating from the Brighton School of Music and Drama, and Leeds University, Vance embarked on a career with the BBC, and the Talking Book Service of the Royal National Institute for the Blind. His work has received five AudioFile Earphones awards and three Audies nominations.
