About the Author When Marion Walter's nieces were young, she wrote birthday card booklets for them with math and other activities for their new age. This book was first written in 1974 as one of those many page booklets. Marion has taught at many institutions, including the Harvard Graduate School of Education and the University of Oregon. Her published books include "Boxes Squares and Other Things" and "The Art of Problem Posing", which was co-authored with Stephen I Brown. Her book "The Mirror Puzzle Book" received honorable mention from the New York Academy of Science Children’s Book Award Program. Marion has a master’s degree in mathematics from New York University and a doctorate in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She taught mathematics to prospective teachers of both elementary and secondary levels. She taught at various institutions including the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Simmons College and the University of Oregon from which she retired in 1993. She is the founder of the Boston Area Math Specialists. Although she is retired, she continues to write articles for math journals and give talks to teachers.
