David William Eames
(Independently published, April 14, 2019)
A Memoir of a Carnival boy born on the road during The Great Depression and travelling around the Showgrounds of Australia with his Showman parents. Growing up among the colourful Gypsies, all the excitement of Sideshow Alley, attending schools along the way with his ever protective older brother Harry. The brutal discipline that was part of those tough times, and then, WW2 started and the opportunity to attend a tiny bush school and an education for which he had always yearned, the never to be forgotten day when his best friend was taken with soul destroying brutality. Puberty and inexperience led him to make a dreadful mistake for which he was to regret for years to come, but then his life became a succession of wonderful and inspiring people. The series of stories are written in a funny, earthy, refreshingly direct style which traces his life with shocking and explicit detail, the people he meets along the way are both amusing and inspirational.
